Pop-Up Cafe Exhibition
Pop-Up Cafe Amsterdam
June 6th – August 2nd, 2009
The Pop-Up Cafe was a temporary exhibition that took place at Meneer de Wit Gallery in Amsterdam.
In an open-plan gallery space we organized a 2-month exhibition that focused on applied arts, combined with an extensive line-up of events including movie nights, dinners & brunches, concerts, workshops and lectures. These events took place every day throughout the 2-month period.
The basic interior of the exhibition was set up in an interim manner and was based on the theme of cafe. Together with a group of artists we designed the interior to provide a creative and flexible support structure for the exhibition's artworks and different events. The pop-up theme was approached quite literally in the interior through the choice of materials; paper, cardboard, bright colour blocks and untreated wood. Several artists were commissioned by us to design and produce works that we could use in the exhibition. The Pop-Up Café became a central meeting point for the local cultural scene during the entire period, and the project's temporary character made sure it preserved its momentum.
